Pastor Dick Mercado Sr. trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized at an early age. He began preaching at 16 years old. He graduated from Grand Canyon College in 1951 and later received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree fromBob Jones University. He married Margine Mae Clark on July 12, 1956 and theynow have been blessed in marriage over 50 years. ​ After spending some 48 years of preaching and pastoring in the Iglesia Evangelica, he was succeeded by his son, Dick Jr., as senior pastor.
